This Father’s Day we wanted to celebrate with some wedding inspo for you, because sometimes choosing the perfect song for a father-daughter dance can be harder than choosing your own first dance song!
Take it from my sister, who spent so long deciding she just chose at random on the day-of (it was Wonderful World, btw).
Here’s our top seven fave songs that will *hopefully* stand out from other weddings:
1. “I Turn to You” by Christina Aguilera
Why we love it:
The lyrics speak to a strong, supportive father/daughter relationship, where one person leans on another’s strength. Not to mention, our girl Xtina’s voice is ev-er-y-thing!
Our favorite part:
“For the strength to be strong, for the will to carry on, for everything you do, for everything that’s true, I turn to you.”
2. “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion
Why we love it:
It’s Celine! Moving on…
Our favorite part:
“You said no star was out of reach. You stood by me, and I stood tall. I had your love, I had it all. I’m grateful for each day you gave me.”
3. “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns n’ Roses
Why we love it:
Basically, it’s not basic. It something different, lighthearted and fun. Also, if you hate being the center of attention or this father/daughter dance thing isn’t your jam, this is a good choice because your guests will be busy dancing and rocking along with you!
Our favorite part:
“She’s got eyes of the bluest skies as if they thought of rain. I hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain.”
4. “One Call Away” by Charlie Puth
Why we love it:
It’s modern and not overdone. Plus, it’s upbeat, but not too difficult to dance to if you or your dance partner has two left feet (or both of you do).
Our favorite part:
“And when you feel like hope is gone, just run into my arms. I’m only one call away. I’ll be there to save the day”
5. “Daughter” by Loudon Wainwright III
Why we love it:
Listen, we know it’s kind of been there, done that. But, COME ON. How sweet are the lyrics?
Our favorite part:
“That’s my daughter in the water. Everything she knows, I taught her.”
6. “Daddy” by Beyoncé
Why we love it:
Besides our blind love for the Queen, this song was practically made for a father/daughter dance. The lyrics are perfect the words to celebrate the love from a father who was there for his daughter every day. OOF this song has all the feels.
Our favorite part:
“Love is overwhelming. All that you did pay for me. Can’t stop my tears from falling. I love you so much, daddy.”
7. “It Won’t Be Like This for Long” by Darius Rucker
Why we love it:
There is seriously no shortage of perfect country songs for father/daughter dances. We honestly could do a list just of country songs (maybe next Father’s Day). We chose this one because it’s all about dad appreciating all moments of his daughter’s life, knowing how quickly life moves. Not to mention, who doesn’t love Darius?
Our favorite part:
“It won’t be like this for long. One day soon we’ll look back laughin’ at the week we brought her home.”
This nostalgic and memorable song reminds us how quickly children grow up. Fathers should cherish and love every single moment they spend with their daughters because “it won’t be like this for long.”
